During a speech given before a joint session of Congress on May 25th. President J. F. Kennedy expressed the goal to reach the moon by end of the 1960s.
This was the start of the Apollo project.

The 3 astronauts reurned to mother Earth. The splashdown point was in the Pacific Ocean.
Today, July 24th 2009 we have the 40th anniversary of this event.
